Support the Knox Revitalization Project, Dorset

Hello Friends and Supporters of Knox United Church

Well here we are, still in this difficult time of change and uncertainty.  Small rural churches, like Knox United in Dorset, have used this time to reflect and sometimes struggle with new ways to be relevant and to serve their wider communities while maintaining a familiar presence in those communities.A persistent barrier for Knox to developing new projects and innovative community programs has been realities such as crumbling stairs and safe accessible access to the building.  The new Food Rescue program highlighted the need for major improvements to the Knox church and access to it for members, visitors and volunteers and to provide more community programs.Discussions exploring how to get help with the project led to a remarkable partnership with Sandy MacKay, general contractor, and the Dorset Community Partnership Fund which allowed us to proceed with the Revitalization Project.  The project is moving forward with a signed engineering plan, grant applications and now fundraising which is off to a great start with two grants received totaling $7,500.Our fundraising goal for 2021-22 is $80,000 and the Revitalization Project will address:

  1. Accessibility: Remake stairs, walkways and entrances with the addition of ramps
  2. Flexible Use of Church Building: Develop interior spaces for multipurpose use
  3. Green & Sustainable Improvements: Siding, windows, insulation and septic upgrades
  4. Enhance/Increase Capacity for Community Programs: Continuation of the winter Food Rescue project, random acts of kindness, book clubs, pie fundraisers and seniors gift baskets.  Provide future opportunities like concerts, art shows, small group social activities, meetings and more!
  5. Preserve Heritage and Church Presence: Knox has been an integral part of the history of Dorset since 1894.  It is the only remaining church in the village offering church services, weddings, funerals, fellowship and opportunities for community volunteering.
