Christian Baptism For Adults & Children
Interested in baptism for a child or adult?
Here are some things you might want to know.
Baptism is, above all else, about how God loves each and every one of us: without boundaries or conditions. We call this “grace”. When we bring a child for baptism or when we choose to be baptised as an adult, we are responding to God’s love for us.
A celebration of baptism takes place as a part of regular Sunday worship. Because baptism is an important symbol of entry into the Christian community, being present in worship with the gathered community of believers is vital.
During a service of baptism, the person being baptised or the child’s parents and godparents/sponsors are asked to make certain promises. (See below). A level of participation in the Christian community is part of what the parents commit to in the promises. The congregation is also asked to make a commitment to support the person being baptised in their Christian life.
There is no fee for baptism. It is just a part of who we are and what we do as followers of Jesus.
If you seek baptism for yourself or your child, you will be asked to meet with the minister one or two times. Together you will decide on a date that works, and any friends or family are welcome to attend the service of baptism.
